To Become Financially Free, Set Big Goals

You work hard every single day, excited to get paid every 15th and 30th day of the month, and eager to save part of your hard-earned salary for a...smartphone, weekend getaway, or a night out with friends.

I'm not saying that these things aren't important. It's just that most Filipinos today are so shortsighted that they are willing to spend their future income for small, petty goals.

If you truly want to achieve financial freedom and abundance, do these things right away:

Set Bigger, Time-Bound Goals

It is not a requirement that you always upgrade to the latest gadgets or follow the latest trends just to look "rich". There are more important things than impressing other people we don't even know.

Set huge and time-bound goals like building an emergency fund, purchasing insurance for your life, health, and assets, acquiring an educational plan for your children, and even starting to prepare for your retirement. Setting bigger goals and making sure that there's a due date for them will enable you to shift your perspective from pursuing petty goals to achieving bigger ones. This will also allow you to focus on more important things than spending your precious time and money trying to look like you've already made it in life.

Be Patient

Trying to achieve huge goals takes time and money. You need to develop the patience to stay in the race and keep on doing what you need to do to achieve your goals. You can't produce a baby in a month by getting nine women pregnant. Patience is important.

Mind Your Own Business

Many people fall into a debt trap by trying to keep up with the Juans. Mind your own business and develop an inner scorecard so you can avoid purchasing unnecessary things just so you can look like your rich neighbor, co-worker, or relative. Instead, focus on beating your past self. If you were born poor, work hard, not so you can purchase shiny things, but so you can retire financially free and abundant and become a blessing to your loved ones.

By setting bigger goals, we will develop the patience and the focus to aim for more important things in life. Pursuing shiny, petty goals will just keep you in the rat race forever.
